History repeats itself. So does our obsession with power, splendor and love… all wrapped up in a cover of one’s choosing.
Western, Eastern or in between, I am fascinated with the deployment of femininity as a control mechanism between the sexes and as a status delineator among women. This power expresses itself in body language and frequently is the subject of my work.
Like a fine wine, the intrigue and authority of femininity ripens with age and doesn’t lose its bite. “She’s just a pretty face” is not only a dialogue between painter and viewer , it reflects a projection about dependence and independence.
Patterns from years past in the applied arts and architecture have always attracted me and I use them freely in my work. Our fixation with beauty runs like a stream throughout archeology and makes me wonder – “Is this an evolutionary trait unique to our species?”
